At an ordinary meeting held this Thursday morning (25th), the members of the Guandu-RJ Committee elected the new composition of the Technical Chamber for Basic Sanitation. Created in 2020, this body’s main objective is to contribute to the planning of actions aimed at urban and rural sanitation in the basin, in addition to monitoring projects related to the framing of water bodies and monitoring. Three representatives of water users, four from organized civil society and four from public authorities were elected.

According to the Guandu Committee’s Water Resources Strategic Plan, if we take the part of Rio de Janeiro that is part of the Hydrographic Region, currently, less than 2% of sewage is treated and a large part is dumped into the spring that supplies nine million people in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, the Guandu river. “Sewage, urban and rural, is our biggest challenge. “Sewage, urban and rural, is our biggest challenge. CTSB was made up of representatives with technical knowledge, which will allow a work focused on the construction of concrete solutions and feasible, as well as in the articulation of key players to advance on this agenda.The Water Resources Strategic Plan, clearly presents the diagnosis and the actions that must be developed to improve the environmental quality, will be our focus to reach the goals. We believe that in this way, we will achieve important results for the collegiate and the entire society in the basin or supplied by it”, stated the new CTSB coordinator, environmental manager Marcelo Danilo Bogalhão (ANAGEA/RJ). The Sub-Coordinator is Mário Luiz Dias (PM Piraí).

After roll-call vote, among the registered members, the following were elected in the water users segment: Douglas Queiroz Francisco (FCC SA), Carlos Alberto Basílio Júnior (LIGHT) and Júlio Cesar Oliveira Antunes (CEDAE); for the Organized Civil Society, the representatives are: Marcelo Danilo da Silva Bogalhão (ANAGEA), Cristina Mendonça (IDC), Ícaro Moreno Junior (University of Vassouras) and Karina de Moura Costa Alencar (ABES); representing the public power were elected: Mario Luiz Dias Amaro (PM Piraí), Ronald Gontijo do Nascimento (PM Mendes), Saulo José de Azevedo de Paula (PM Miguel Pereira) and Rodrigo Bianchini Greco Alves (INEA).

The new composition will gather on the next April 15th. Members are already reading the Water Resources Strategic Plan and the Application Plan, so that they can start contributing to the execution of planning actions.
